Replacing False Beliefs with God’s Truth

What we believe about God shapes everything—how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we interpret our pain. But what happens when those beliefs are wrong?

At Rock House Center, we often meet people who are stuck in cycles of anxiety, shame, or striving—not because they don’t love God, but because they unknowingly believe lies about His character. These false beliefs distort how we pursue healing and how we expect our divine needs to be met.

In Be Transformed: New Life Awaits, we’re reminded that the law of the Spirit of life calls us to live by the Spirit, not the flesh. That means we must allow the Holy Spirit to reveal and correct the beliefs that keep us from receiving God’s love, peace, and truth.

Romans 8:6 tells us that the mind of the Spirit is life and peace. But if we believe God is distant, demanding, or disappointed in us, we won’t experience that peace. Instead, we’ll try to earn His approval, avoid His presence, or numb our pain with substitutes.

False beliefs about God often form early—through family dynamics, church culture, or painful experiences. We may believe God is like our earthly father: critical, absent, or conditional. We may think He’s testing us, punishing us, or withholding good until we “get it right.”

But the truth is this: God designed our divine needs to be met in relationship with Him. He is trustworthy, present, and full of grace. When we allow the Holy Spirit to replace lies with truth, our hearts begin to heal. We stop striving and start receiving.
